Happy Halloween! (And Happy Birthday to a certain famous cruiser…)

Made it to the boat with our friend Jay after a nice 8-hour drive.
(You may remember Jay from Episodes 57-59 of the How Not To Sail podcast…)

We immediately started getting things ready for departure. (Well, mainly we started just “making better throughout” in the cabin, before moving on to weightier matters.)

Our friend Jim constructed a spiffy mount for the dinghy motor. Unfortunately, the 8.5 hp motor is super-heavy and seems in sketchy shape…so we may be looking at using oars with the dinghy for now.
One of the first things I did was to remove the “bird shit protector” (a two-piece blue canvas tarp) from atop the cabin. (The birds are brutal here in the winter…but the tarp also keeps down the temperature during the summer and can also be used at anchor.)

Sew Cool Canvas also created a great sunscreen for the stern, which usually faces west in the marina…but sadly I don’t think I have a picture to share here.
It’s about time to start our grand cruise to the Dry Tortugas (via Venice, Cabbage Key, Sanibel and Key West (Stock Island)…so for now, some well-deserved Zzzzzs…
