Might as well get up and write. It’s time for people to start banging about, if the last two mornings are any guide. I had my in-ear monitors screwed into my ears, with ocean surf cranked up to try to drown out the racket…but I decided to get up anyway, swig some Gaviscon, and sit at the laptop. Now I’m feeling like I could sleep again. 🤣

HOW YOU CAN HELP HOW NOT TO SAIL…INCLUDING SOME FREE THINGS

Yesterday it was like working inside a small thunderstorm all day, in this paper-thin “efficiency” room at the “resort.” Doors slamming. Maid carts and luggage rumbling down the hallway. But I’m staying here, holding my breath that I’ll get authorization to interview some of the crew who plucked me off the vessel Tuesday. You couldn’t ask for better people.

The Coast Guard vessel.
Coast Guard vessel.

I’ve got another DR-10x coming from Amazon. Not surprisingly, the handy recorder that plugs into my field microphone didn’t survive the rain and spray…but I’m pretty sure my bomb-proof Electro-Voice RE50 microphone did. (I guess we’ll know soon enough.) You could probably use that damn thing for self defense.

The RE50 in happier times. Recording The Admiral.

I did manage to collect some audio for the podcast on the way down, and thankfully the SD card didn’t get glitched…

…but the recorder gave up the ghost, and I had to use my phone to record stuff from Tuesday’s disaster.

(Okay, I did NOT get to more words…so far. Instead, I started working on the podcast episode “Losing Jacie Sails“…which is now done! (Working on the second part now.) However, I do plan to continue blogging about this travesty, so check out the blog and some more posts should appear soon.
